Pre Season Friendly
AFC VERNON 7 BALLERS FC 1
Saw this friendly and this gave me a chance to see two new clubs to the NSL for this upcoming season. The venue of Vernon Park is one that Ive not been to since watching Bulwell FC clinch the NSL title at the now defunct Vernon Villa FC some years ago.
Was met by both managers on arrival and of course no cuppa at this match due to the public park and cafe area being locked up.
The match kicked off and things were quite equal to begin with and it was Ballers a very young team that had the first chance of the game and could well have taken the lead but for snatching at a chance in front of goal.
Afc Vernon who were Gedling Town in the MNA last season came more in to the game and after 20 minutes were awarded a free kick on the edge on the penalty area, which was stuck home.
This seemed to spur Vernon on and if it wasnt for man of the match Ballers goalkeeper the scoreline could well have been out of sight within 35 minutes. On 40 minutes AFC Vernon doubled their lead as I was stood with local NSL hopper Wayne Morrison. Just before the half time whistle, Vernon extended their lead to 3-0.
The Second Half kicked off in similar fashion to the way the first half ended and Vernon on 49 minutes made it 4-0 and then on 56 minutes 5-0, it began to look like this could be a matter of this becoming any score at this stage.
To Ballers credit they didnt give up and continued to press forward and after 67 minutes got a consolation goal back from the penalty spot.
Again the homesters pressed forward and it was the Ballers keeper again keeping them at bay but he could do nothing when tired legs for the visitors young players began to set in and on 84 minutes, it became 6-1, the end of the scoring ended in the 86th minute when Vernon added to their tally.
The Charity Blog's running total for Nottingham Stroke Club now stands at £1,019.00 after a amazing donation of £20 from Radford FC's Secretary Jon Holt.
