FOSTER LEADS WAY WITH HAT TRICK

 Notts Senior League

Division Two North

UNITED GRAYS COMMUNITY FC 3 TRENT VINEYARD FC 0

Two new clubs to the NSL met on the opening day of the new 2020-21 season at a ground on Nabbs Lane,, in the shadows of Hucknall Town's Watnall Road ground. The home side have moved in to their new home after last season playing on one of the outside pitches at Arnold Town, whilst their visitors are connected to the church and play in Beeston.

The match was a 2pm kick off and on arrival was met by Mrs Gray who did the track and trace, then her son came and greeted me and went o his car and came back with a keyring with gel in it  and a United Grays snood which will come in handy when it gets cold.

Team captain John Manders kindly then donated £10 to the charity blog and then the Trent Vineyard Charirman kindly donated £25 from the club, may I thank you all for the superb donations towards Nottingham Stroke Club.

With both clubs team photos taken, the game  kicked off and went from end to end with few chances in front of goal as both defences were holding solid, until the 14th minute, when a ball out of the home defence reached the right winger who's pinpoint cross was met by ASH FOSTER who overhead bicycle kick landed in the net to give his side the lead.

The visitors pressed in return for a quick chance to reply but they were failing to beat a well organised offside line, but after 33 minutes they thought they had got themselves back on level terms when the ball was played across the the right winger and the forward knocked the ball past the keeper, but their delight was short lived as the linesman raised his flag, it was a very close call and npt one that I would have been able to make.

Then came a bit of a odd moment in the game, when further up the line, a player left to the pitch due to not feeling very well, the referee didnt hear the call from his team mates and showed the player a yellow card, the referee didnt see that the player had left the pitch to be sick and thought he had just left the pitch without his permission. United Grays subbed the player straight away and the referee has recinded the card, as both clubs told the referee that they clearly head the player asking to go off.

Vineyard were breaking and looked a bit more dangerous, but the home defence stood tall and needed that second goal, this came in the final moments of the first half, when a quickly taken free kick saw ASH FOSTER pull away from the rest of the players on the edge of the box before turning and scooping the ball in to the net.

The Second Half was very much similar to the first half with both sides pressing forward with a lot more shots, but some a bit wayward and not troubling the keepers very often.

In the 73rd minute, a long cross from the left wing bounced on to the Vineyard crossbar and close up saw two home forward attack the ball in to the net, the two players agreed that ASH FOSTER got the final touch to complete his hat trick.

With £35 donation from both parties and the 3 goals scored it now takes the Charity Blog's running total for Nottingham Stroke Club to a amazing £1,054.75p
