KEMPS GO WEST TO TURN TIE ROUND

 Cornwall FA Junior Cup

1st Round

WEST CORNWALL FC 4 ST IVES MARINERS FC 1

Two team s from the Trelawny League met in the Cornwall Junior Cup, West Cornwall FC with new coach Ashley Kemp at the helm and St Ive Mariners plying their trade in the division below, I saw them quite a few years back at home against Kemp's old club St Erme FC.

A minutes silence took place before kick off for a local player Dave Curnow, a solider who was murdered on a evening out five years ago to today in local town Redruth. West Cornwall's ground is named after him in his memory.

The cup tie kicked off and was very even in front of a crowd of 32 spectators, but it was the Mariners who looked more dangerous after 13 minutes when hitting the underside of the cross bar from a rasping shot from 25 yards out, they didnt have to wait very long as in the 17th minute, they did take the lead, when a poor clearance by the home keeper was intercepted by the visiting left winger who did a one town move and JOSH RICHARDS stuck home.

The visitors could and should have gone in to a two goal lead, when ripping the home defence apart and a visiting attacker stuck goalbound, only to see his shot strike his own player in the six yard box and going just wide of the net.

This seemed to wake the homesters up and they pressed forward and on 35 minutes got themselves level through SAM KEMP.

In to the Second Half and almost straight away West Cornwall should have taken the lead but a header was aimed straight at the keeper.

The game then went very even with both sides hustling and bustling but not many chances, but then a mistake at the back for the Saints let in SAM KEMP to fire home after 68 minutes. This seemed to rock the visitors as the home side took a two goal advantage when GRAHAM STARR cut in from the left wing and fired home.

In the final minute with the clock ticking down ASHLEY KEMP made it 4-1 to see his club progress in to the next round of the cup.

I felt the referee, a Gordan Ramsey lookalike had a superb game in the middle, not having to show any cards but at times having to just have the odd chat to players without being over the top, well done ref, everyone moans when they make the odd mistake but hardly give praise when they are good

May I also thank St Ives Mariners FC Dave Smith for kindly donating £10 and also Hucknall Town Reserves manager who also donated £10 to the Blogs Charity Nottingham Stroke Club which now takes the running total to a stunning £1077.50p
