SWPL: WEST DIVISION
PORTHLEVEN AFC 3 ST AUSTELL 1
A nice visit to Porthleven AFC for their League match v St Austell where we arrived in the afternoon and gained permission to park up in the clubs car park whilst we strolled down in to the village. After going round the village, as we reached the car, the rain hammered down, but within 20 minutes out came the sun, so we headed for the clubhouse, where we was greeted by the clubs Chairman and his committee.
The three matchday officials arrived, a young referee and his two assistants, one of the assistants Anita Gittens who has been a friend of our family for a number of years, the other assistant is to be the referee at my saturday match at St Newlyn East FC.
The game kicked off and the first chance fell to the visitors but it was hit wide. The first home attack on 3 minutes saw ISSAC DRYBURGH collected the ball some 30 yards out and hit a low shot to the left of the keeper to put his side in to a early lead.
On 17 minutes, Porthleven though that they had doubled their advantage but the assistant referee correctly raised his flag for offside just before the ball hit the back of the net.
The visitors pushed forward but were lacking anyone hitting the target but possibly had the most chances to get back in the game.
The Second Half kicked off in similar fashion to the first, with Porthleven on the attack and gaining a corner in the 50th minutes, the ball was swung over from the left and was headed home by ISSAC DRYBURGH to not only double his tally but also his teams to 2-0.
As I walked round the ground, I then bumped in to local reporter Tom Howe and his Truro City supporting friend Hugo, so I stopped and chattered to them for the rest of the match to catch up on old and future times.
St Austell started to create a lot more chances and got back in to the match on 66 minutes, where a free kick was spilled and followed up by CHRIS KILBEY to knock home to reduce the score.
This seemed to spur the visitors forward in search of getting a point out of the game, but in to injury time, CHARLIE YOUNG wrapped up the points when he fired home in to the bottom corner to make it 3-1 to Porthleven.
