ANDREAS HAT TRICK SECURES THE POINTS IN ELEVEN GOAL THRILLER

Samba Nottinghamshire Senior League

Foundation Division

RAINWORTH SENIORS FC 6 SOUTH NOTTS AFC 5

With both sides coming in to the game winning their matches last weekend, a close encounter was expected on a grey showery day, hence no match photos from this game.

On arrival at the Joesph Whittaker Academy, in the car park were Sutton Travellers who had switched their home game v Carlton Town Reserves to a grass pitch over the hill, whilst I chose the option of my original match to watch in the 3g of Rainworth Seniors v South Notts AFC, the two sides met at the back end of October with the South Notts club winning 5-3.

The game kicked off slightly early as both sides didnt want too be standing around in the rain and in the first attack, the visitors after 68 seconds took the lead when BETTISON PAIXO shot and the home keeper kicked at fresh air. South Notts pushed forward in search of a second goal and the Seniors kept them to long range efforts.

In the homesters first real attack in the 9th minute, DAN SMART lifted the ball over the visiting keeper to equal things up. This seemed to lift the Seniors spirits as they pressed forward and they got their rewards on 15 minutes when ANDREAS KOKKINOU fired them in to a 2-1 lead, three minutes later it became 3-1 after a quick movement play by the home side which again was finished off by ANDREAS KOKKINOU.

At this stage, it looked like Seniors could well run away with the game but South Notts AFC keeper Joshua Harvey pulled off four top class saves/ The visitors though were not giving up in a fast flowing game and gained a free kick some 25 yards out in the 27th minute, to which OLAF MILEWECSZ fired through a crowded box of the players in to the bottom corner of the net to reduce the arrears, but Rainworth hit straight back with in a minute when LUKE WHITMORE was last to touch a bouncing ball around the box before it crossed the line to make it 4-2.

In the 30th minute of this exciting half, the visitors again closed the gap when BETTISON PAIXO scored his second and his sides third goal of the afternoon.

The Second Half kicked off in similar fashion as the first, with goal within a minute, but this time it was Rainworth that got it when DAN SMART broke through and slipped the ball past the visiting keeper. In the 51st minute, it looked to be game over, when from a corner of the left side,  ANDREAS KOKKINOU completed his hat trick with a header to make it 6-3.

In the 53rd minute, a few players from both sides got frustrated and came together, this short break seemed to affect the home sides concentration as from the resulting free kick, South Notts REMEL WHITE's free kick from 30 yards struck the back of the net.

In the 58th minute, NATHANIEL MORRIS pulled the visitor back to just one goal behind, but with a few late challenges leading to yellow cards and then both sides going down to ten men due to being sent to the sin bin, as Seniors went back to eleven men, South Notts lost another player to the sin bin.

A frantic final ten minutes saw a all out attack from both sides in a match that more goals could well have been scored, with the visitors hitting the crossbar in the final moments of the match.

For a neutral, a very good match to watch in a game that had about everything.
